Create SQL server version 11 in Azure using Azure PowerShell

Currently the manual installation of KanBo on Azure works with the 11th and the 12th version of Azure SQL Server. The reason for that is a very bad performance of SQL Database creation time which causes timeouts in KanBo – sometimes it takes up to 5 minutes. (read more about this issue at Microsoft Azure Forum) In the version V11 of the SQL Server it takes about 5-10 seconds.

We have recently discovered that some of the new subscriptions weren't able to reach old management portal and in fact couldn't create a SQL Server V11 in a new portal. However, It's possible to create a V11 server by using PowerShell.

Step 1: Install Azure PowerShell components with following command:

Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned
Install-Module -Name Azure

Step 2: Connect to Azure

Get-AzurePublishSettingsFile
Import-AzurePublishSettingsFile
$subscr="YourAzureSubscriptionNameGoesHere"
$staccount="YourAzureSubscriptionIDGoesHere"
Select-AzureSubscription -SubscriptionName $subscr –Current
Set-AzureSubscription -SubscriptionName $subscr -CurrentStorageAccountName $staccount

Step 3: Create V11 Azure SQL Server

New-AzureSqlDatabaseServer -Location "West Europe" -AdministratorLogin "AdminLogin" -AdministratorLoginPassword "AdminPassword"
